OPATIJA – KRK – RAB – ZADAR – KORNATI – MALI LOŠINJ – CRES – OPATIJA
Breakfast – B, Lunch – L, Dinner – D, Tasting – T, Captain’s Dinner – CD
Day 1: Opatija-Krk (L,T)
Your ship, the Black Swan will depart from Opatija at 13:00pm as you enjoy a delicious welcome lunch on board. We’ll begin by sailing towards our first destination: the island of Krk in the northern Dalmatian sea but will take a quick break en route for our first swim stop in the stunning blue waters of the Adriatic. Krk is Croatia’s largest island and offers a stunning mix of pebbly beaches, lush forests and idyllic island villages – one of which (Vrbnik village) we’ll visit on arrival to indulge in a wine tasting of local grape varieties such as žlahtina, which is grown exclusively on Krk Island. Afterwards we’ll head back to Krk Town for an evening spent exploring its delightful old town and its small but impressive collection of bars and restaurants.
Overnight in Krk town.
Day 2: Krk – Rab (B,L,T)
After breakfast, we’ll begin our cruise towards Rab: the island of love, as it’s known locally, and one of Croatia’s smaller inhabited islands. As we make our approach to the island you’ll see the medieval towers of churches and palaces towering above Rab Town’s 15th century stone walls, and the imposing hills, topped with oak forests and karst stone. The streets of Rab are delightful, filled with archways, elegant bell towers attached to Romanesque churches, enchanting palm-lined gardens and fantastic Konobas – where local favourites such as pod peku and the delicious Rapska torta (Rab Cake) – a dreamy combination of almonds, crystallised sugar, lemon and Maraschino cherry liqueur – are served. Before dinner, we suggest walking up to the summit of Kamenjak hill to catch some of the dreamiest sunset vistas of the sea and outlying islands.
Overnight in town of Rab.
Day 3: Rab – Zadar (B,L)
In the morning we’ll set sail towards Zadar, cruising by islands such as the otherworldly Pag and the jewellery box sized Maun Island – where we’ll drop anchor for a quick swim stop before continuing onwards to Zadar, where if you like you can take part in an optional walking tour of the historic city, taking in its impressive historical landmarks such as the 16th century Venetian city walls and the Roman Forum, as well as its city’s modern touches – the most popular of which is the Sea Organ, a sound installation that turns the tides of the sea into an organ, resulting in calming organ-like sounds to emanate from the steps of the seafront when the tide comes in.
Day 4: Zadar-Kornati (B,L,D)
Today we’ll sail away from Zadar towards the beautifully wild Kornati National Park, which is a haven of some 140 paradisiacal islands adorned with lost islets, rustic unspoiled beaches, dramatic cliff sides and medieval architecture. Walkers will want to join us for a trek to the Mir salt lake, which is embedded in the emerald like hills that adorn the island of Dugi otok. In the evening, dinner will be served aboard the Black Swan, with perfectly romantic views of the surrounding islands.
Day 5: Kornati-Mali Losinj (B,L)
After breakfast we’ll have some time to indulge in a morning swim before heading to the sunny island of Losinj, which is criss-crossed with wild walking trails that forge paths through lush woodlands and open up onto stunning deserted bays. One of the island’s hidden treasures is its dolphin population that lives in the Mediterranean’s first protected marine area custom designated for dolphins. If you’re interested to learn more then pay a visit to the educational research centre in the village. On arrival to Losinj we’ll journey out for a walking tour of Mali Lošinj, taking in the Lošinj Aromati Garden and the Museum of Apoxyomenos.
Overnight in Mali Lošinj.
Day 6: Mali Losinj – Cres (B,L)
We’ll leave in the morning for Cres Island, stopping along the way for a swim stop on the coast of Susak, if the weather permits, before moving on to Cres. Cres is basically Losinj’s more rustic, lesser-known little brother and is filled with huge oak forests, vineyards and olive groves that are fringed by soaring cliffs and alluring hidden coves. To see it all – we suggest taking a journey up to one of the island’s hilltop towns for incredible vistas out over the Adriatic and the island. We’ll arrange an optional dinner in the idyllic village of Loznati for the evening, where we recommend that you try the many traditional lamb specialties that are popular on the island, before spending the night anchored off shore with views of the medieval town and the colourful houses perched in the harbour.
Day 7: Cres-Opatija (B,L,CD)
Today we’ll set sail for Opatija, the final destination on our Katarina Kvarner Island Deluxe cruise, famed for its gorgeous Riviera and its grand seaside promenade that itself is lined with a plethora of stunning architectures – from huge Austro-Hungarian palaces on the seafront to quaint red-roofed villas sprouting from the lush hillsides. As it’s the last night of the cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to join the rest of the passengers for the captain’s dinner – complete with live entertainment and awe-inspiring views of Opatija from the ship.
Day 8: Opatija (B)
After a final breakfast aboard the ship, you’ll disembark and either head home or stay in Croatia and enjoy a few extra days exploring Rovinj, Zagreb or the Plitvice Lakes which are all within reach of Opatija.
