Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Split
Our private airport transfer will whisk you along the stunning coastline to Croatia’s second city – the delightful city of Split. Best known for its imposing UNESCO-listed Diocletian’s Palace, Split is charming and alluring. After checking into your boutique hotel, you will be able to enjoy our private guided tour of the Old Town. Here you will discover the popular major highlights of this gripping city with so much historical and cultural interest. Split is embellished with ancient Roman and medieval architecture that enhances its rich heritage. During the evening, take a gentle stroll along the Riva waterfront and try out the delicious local cuisine. If you’re feeling energetic, you could also take a hike to the top of Marjan Hill for the most incredible views of the surroundings.
Day 2 Split – Optional trip to Krka National Park and city of Trogir
Trogir is a medieval town that oozes charm. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features a picturesque Old Town with many fascinating historic architectural structures and landmark buildings. Explore the imposing Kmerlengo Castle and tower, which has a vast quantity of delightful Gothic-Renaissance and Baroque period attractions that date back centuries. Enjoy stunning views from the top of the Bell Tower of the Cathedral of St Lawrence. You will visit the wonders of Krka Waterfalls National Park and discover the pathways and wooden bridges that wind through the natural wonderland. Enjoy the spectacular Skradinski Buk waterfalls, and go for a refreshing swim in the Roški Slap.
DAY 3 Transfer to Hvar
You will travel by high speed catamaran to one of Croatia’s most famous locations – the jet-set island of Hvar. Cosmopolitan Hvar Town is set against a backdrop of sun-bleached white houses and calm blue seas and exudes the magical Mediterranean charm of bygone years. For the most breathtaking views over the town centre, hike to the top of the Fortica Fortress. Ensure that you explore the island’s maze of narrow, pretty alleyways and the visit the alluring cafes, restaurants and boutiques selling unique artisan crafts and other local products from lavendar to fine oil paintings. During the evening, you can venture onwards to the neighbouring Pakleni islands or simply relax in the welcoming, friendly atmosphere of the town.
DAY 4 Hvar – Blue Cave & Komiza speedboat, small group tour
We travel by high speed motor boat towards the magnificent and famous Blue Cave to discover its unique illumination attraction, a natural phenomenon that can only be accessed by speedboat. The sun’s rays create an atmospheric blue light as they filter through and catch the water. We will have the chance to go for a refreshing and revuvenating swim or snorkel at the nearby crystal clear waters at the Green Cave, Monk Cave and Stiniva Cove. You can relax within the spectacular natural scenery or for the more adventurous, jump off cliff sides. In the afternoon, we visit the small fishing village of Komiža and sample the freshly caught fish at a popular local beachfront restaurant.
DAY 5 Dubrovnik – Private tour of the Old Town
We will now move onto Croatia’s most famous location – the UNESCO World Heritage site listed old city of Dubrovnik, affectionately known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, due to its many marble wonders. You will travel by high speed Catamaran from Hvar. Once checked in at your boutique hotel, you will be met by our guide for a private guided tour of the enchanting Old Town. The guide will take you to some of the famous locations where the hit TV show Game of Thrones was filmed. This historic medieval city boasts protective defensive walls, majestic palaces and ornate churches. Wherever you look you will discover a unique magical charm and elegant architecture. We have also arranged for entrance to the cable car for a journey up the Srd Hill cable, where you will experience breathtaking views of the old town and nearby Elaphiti Islands. Enjoy a delicious meal whilst gazing at the mesmerising sunset.
DAY 6 Dubrovnik - Optional trip to Montenegro
Explore the iconic sights and wander through the town of Dubrovnik at your leisure. We recommend that you take a stroll along the top of the medieval city walls for breathtaking views of the city and the Adriatic. Alternatively, you will have the opportunity to visit the city of Kotor in neighbouring Montenegro. The UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and was at one time the settlement of the Romans and early Christians. Ancient city walls surrounding the Fortress of Saint Ivan also protect the city of Kotor and stretch out for two miles in total. You will also have an opportunity to enjoy the spectacular views around the beautiful Kotor Bay.
DAY 7 Transfer to Athens
Your driver will collect you early for a private transfer to Dubrovnik airport for your short flight to Athens. The spectacular Greek capital has undeniably the most glorious of history. This enchanting metropolis has been known as the birthplace for modern civilization. You will check in to your luxury hotel and then have time at leisure to explore the delights of Athens, dominated by the 5th-century BC landmarks. Indulge your inner foodie and sample the edible delights of Athens. Take to the streets to visit Athens’ cafés, markets, delicatessens, street food haunts and hidden specialty food stores and learn more about the city’s rich culinary heritage.
DAY 8 Athens
Explore the distinguished sights of Athens and discover the rich history and heritage on a private half-day tour of the city’s headline acts led by a knowledgeable local guide. Explore the UNESCO-listed ruins of the Acropolis of Athens and dive into the mythological world of Ancient Greece as you visit the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus and Temple of Athena Nike. You will visit the Panathenian Stadium, where the first Olympic Games was held in the 19th century; witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony outside the Greek Parliament; and visit the National Gardens. Then sample local goodies such as sweet donuts, or loukoumades, Greek bread and regional cheeses, along with local Greek wine and freshly brewed coffee.
DAY 9 Domestic flight to Santorini
Our driver will collect you for your early journey to Athens airport for your short domestic flight to the majestic island of Santorini. Pretty sugar-cubed towns with blue-domed churches and world-famous sunsets set the scene but that’s just the start of the island’s charms. You will check into your luxury boutique hotel and have a moment to take in the wonderful views over the dramatic Caldera cliffside. We would recommend that you sample the delicious local cuisine in one of the tavernas in the capital Fira, whilst admiring the world-famous sunset. Admire the cliffs, where the volcanic land meets white mansions and yposkafas, surrounded by the brilliant blue sea.
DAY 10 Santorini – Half day Private tour
Our informative and passionate local guide will meet you after breakfast for your tour of Santorini. You will visit the best spots on the island, including the enchanting cliffside village of Oia, filled with white-washed sugar-cube style buildings overlooking the dramatic caldera. You will get the chance to explore Santorini’s Red and Black beaches, whose volcanic sand lives up to their respective names. Also, Akrotiri which features bronze age ruins mired in cooled lava from an ancient volcanic eruption. A highlight is the Moni Profiti Ilia Monastery, resting on the highest point in Santorini, 1,701 feet in altitude with truly breathtaking views of the island and surrounding turquoise seas.
Day 11 Santorini - Optional half day wine tour
Today’s option is for wine-lovers and you will get to visit the island’s famous vineyards. Learn all about winemaking on the island and of its unique viticulture as you travel through the spectacular countryside. With the striking, volcanic aspa soil, the island is able to produce wine that is rich in minerals. Santorini’s grapes are grown in baskets that are set close to the soil — an act that helps moisture from rain to be retained. Take a tour the cellars of each wine estate and follow the production process from harvesting the grapes through to maturing the wine. Sample up to 12 different wines, including local vinsanto and assyrtiko as well as the delicious local olives, bread and cheese. Before sunset, you will be taken to the tiny village of Oia to admire one of the world’s most wondrous sunsets.
Day 12 Return Transfer to the airport
You will be collected by private transfer from your hotel and driven to Santorini airport after a very memorable experience of two incredible countries. You will be flown back to Athens where we will arrange an additional night in this city depending on your requirements for your onward travel.
