Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Venice
You will be met on arrival at Venice airport with a private transfer to the comfortable 4-star Hotel Continental, which is located in the city centre in a prime position within the most historic part of the city. Venice is surely one of the most unique and stunning cities in the world that needs little introduction! The floating city is the capital of romance and boasts a plethora of famous landmark attractions and historic monuments. Spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring this city set in the Adriatic built on 100 small islands.
Day 2 Venice – Gondola ride
Enjoy the day exploring this beautiful water city. We have arranged a private gondola tour so you can glide along the scenic grand canals in style. Then take a seat in one of the cafes and indulge in a spot of people watching whilst feasting yourself on the delicious cuisine. Admire the beautiful ornate architecture and palaces, including the breathtaking Palazzo Ducale, the Piazza San Marco, and many other picturesque squares. Stroll across the Rialto Bridge (Ponte Rialto) and the romantic Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) and imagine yourself in a faraway time.
DAY 3 Tour of Murano and Burano (Optional)
Join our optional guided tour to nearby Murano Island, an island which is known for its long history of exquisite glass making. The tour includes a visit to the alluring Murano Museum of Glass and a local glass factory. Observe the crafts folk at work and learn about the art of hand-blowing glass in the Romanesque style. The Church of Santa Maria and San Donato has a colourful mosaic floor and supposedly houses the bones of a slain dragon! Picturesque Burano boasts colourful fishermen’s houses and its casual eateries serve delicious seafood from the lagoon.
DAY 4 Ferry from Venice to Rovinj
Travel to Croatia by ferry boat which will take approximately 3 hours, 45 minutes. You will arrive in style at the charming medieval fishing port of Rovinj which competes with Dubrovnik as Croatia’s most photographed destination. It was originally built on an island but has since been connected to the mainland. Take a stroll through the postcard-pretty cobbled streets and admire the colourful facades of the local buildings. Visit the hilltop church of St Euphemia to view the lofty steeple that dominates the skyline, and the pebble beaches of Lone Bay. Tucked along the narrow passages and alleyways there are many interesting shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that are well worth exploring. Enjoy a traditional local meal whilst admiring the exquisite views.
DAY 5 Rovinj
Get lost in the old town with the colourful, medieval streets bursting with Venetian houses, squeezed one to another and right by the water’s edge. Explore the large number of excellent art galleries that are situated along the steep and narrow pedestrian streets and visit the vibrant harbour with a large collection of small pleasure and fishing boats. The beauty of Rovinj is inspiring and full of romance and intrigue. Relax at the spa and fine swimming pool at the Hotel Lone or take a swim at one of the nearby beaches and coves. You could even try your hand at scuba diving where there are some incredible shipwrecks under the sea.
DAY 6 Authentic Istrian Experience – Visit the hilltop villages
A private tour of the Istria region through the dreamy countryside dotted with traditional villages that will overwhelm you with their beauty. Visit the family-run Kozlovic Winery for a guided tour of the wine cellar with a full explanation of the wine production process, as well as a tasting of the delicious Istrian wines. You will also experience the charming hilltop medieval fortified villages of Motovun and Groznjan with its vibrant ambience and maze of cobbled streets full local of arts and crafts. You will also try your hand at truffle hunting in the Motovun Forest with our local and very highly regarded family that are world renown for their truffles.
DAY 7 Explore Lim Bay (optional)
A fantastic way to spend you last day as in just 20 minutes you will reach the fascinating, beautiful and ancient Lim Bay area. It is a 35 km protected landscape of spectacular slopes that are covered in different forms of evergreen shrubs and oak. Before Christ, the Illyrians were building their colonies, the Illyrian forts, on the surrounding mountains. The water in the bay is sweet and suitable for the growth of plant and animal life, including fish and oysters, that can be sampled at one of the nearby restaurants on the coast of the bay.
DAY 8 Departure Day
Time to bid farewell to the friendly hotel staff and others that you may have met during your stay in Rovinj. You will be transferred to Pula airport for your flight home after a memorable twin-centre Venice and Rovinj holiday, where you will have discovered this picturesque corner of the Adriatic.
